Citrus County Sheriff's Office dispatchers received a call at 11:30 pm on Saturday night about a stabbing that occurred outside a home at 508 Zephyr St. in Inverness.
A group of people were gathered in front of the home when a fight broke out between Matthew May, 29, of Inverness, and Brandon Yuranko, 25, also of Inverness where both of them sustained minor injuries. Friends of both parties were able to break up the fight and at that time the defendant went into his residence while the victim, Mr Yuranko was being attended to by a friend.
Moments later the defendant, Mr. May, exited the residence and engaged the victim, Mr. Yuranko, in a verbal altercation. As Mr. Yuranko approached, May lunged a knife, which was described as a full sized diving knife, into the left side of Mr. Yuranko.
After taking the knife out, witnesses say that May couldn’t believe what he had just done, but then walked around the corner towards the water and allegedly threw the knife in the lake. Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Dive team was called in to retrieve the knife from the water.
Mr. Yuranko was transported to Citrus Memorial Health System where he succumbed to his stab wound and was pronounced deceased on 12:29 am Sunday.
Matthew May was arrested for manslaughter, and transported to the Citrus County Detention Facility for booking and processing.
The defendant’s bond was set at $50,000.00, per the bond schedule.
